Jammin’ at the Zoo
I went to the Zoo Bar last night to catch my friend, Will, who was playing on stage with Magic Slim. Will went to open mic night at Duggan’s Pub on Monday and shared the stage with Magic, who then invited Will (a 17-year-old guitar phenom) to join him on stage at the Zoo on Friday.
Magic summoned Will to the stage during the second set and Will torched a few blues songs, including “Mustang Sally.” At some point during the second set, Magic asked if there was a drummer in the house.
I wasn’t expecting that, so I contemplated things until he asked a second time. That’s when I made a bee-line for the stage. I ended up playing on stage with Magic and Will and the rest of the band for a couple of songs on the set. I can’t remember what we played, but it was a BLAST!Will, who is one of Ellen’s classmates, did an awesome job! He’s an incredible guitar player. And, of course, Magic Slim and the boys were tremendous, as usual.
